2005 Breakfast

Our Kona team has three athletes named Jeff and they are all totally different in shape and age. Although I had a good idea about their shape I had no idea what they looked like. I know them fairly well from all the emails but I just met them today. Such is the world of online coaching. We are slowly introducing video analysis on our online so faces will not be totally unfamiliar next time.

Our team breakfast took place earlier today. People wanted to take a picture with me, that is new. We all had a good meal and chatted. Mark spoke about how to approach the race mentally. He also spoke about how when things are not going well during a race you can still correct and adjust as you go and have a successful race. When it was my turn I spoke about staying within yourself and ignoring others. Run your own race. I used as an example my ride to Hawi with Mark yesterday. During the uphill I struggled to stay with him. He spins much faster than I do and I could not find a rhythm. But as soon as I decided to let him go, I found my rhythm and was no more than 10 yards behind at the top of the hill. That was something I easily made up on the way down the hill with my extra 30 pounds.

Today I am fairly wasted. Not from training but from lack of sleep. I mentioned on a previous post that our bank changed the way credit card charges are handled by the web site. Well, it was 4:00 AM Kona time when I got to bed and got up at 6:00 AM to get ready for the breakfast. I think it is working now so give it a try guys and girls. If you have trouble you know who to blame :-) My only training for the day was a 25 minute run with Mark before we opened our booth at the Ironman Expo. I'll tell you more about the expo later in the week. All I remember from previous years is that it is hot and I sweat a lot. That is not a great thing to have when talking with athletes interested in coaching.
