The beginning of something by Luis

The great thing about kids is watching them experience all these little things in life. My friend Rick who is in charge of providing bikes to my kid bought my son his bike a few months ago and it is now his favorite toy. He loves to ride it. As any rider he has also experienced a crash. But he gets back on and rides away. We did our first out and back. It was about a mile long and I was worried as we started with a tailwind. The head wind would be an experience coming home but not a problem. He was squinting so we went and got some kid riding glasses for his next ride. He even has his first bike trick down. Check the video. How fun is that?

In order to provide you with a more exciting viewing experience I will also start doing some small videos. I wish I would have taken some video of the ride yesterday. But I will from some of these crazy rides in the next few weeks. Monday I rode over the continental divide from Winter Park to Boulder. I basically rode door to door, from my new house to my old house for almost 120 miles. That was cool. I took opportunity as one or our athletes, Kelly and her training partners were doing a 300 mile 3 day ride and their last day started about 30 miles from my house. So I woke up to a 26 degrees Fahrenheit cold morning. I bundled up with a face mask and all and rode to meet them. When we got to the Rocky Mountain National park we were told that the pass was closed due to ice on the road but that most likely by the time we got to the pass it would be open. I was fairly sure of that as the weather forecast was a good one. The weather warmed up slowly and we got over the pass safely and rode down to Boulder. I was a bit concerned that with so much downhill late on the ride I would not be able to get a nice training session. Not to worry, I pedaled for most of the downhill as we had a very stiff head wind. It was definitely a great day.

This week also begins my biggest weeks of training. This is were my Ironman will be made or broken. I do not feel 100% which is a bummer. I still have some lingering effects from my cold. But it will be what it will be. I just hope for the best. Next week one of our athletes and friend Chad will be visiting to do his own Ironman training camp. I will basically be his guide and accompany him on most of the training. I am not sure I will be able to keep up for much. He is too fast. If I try I will end up hammering myself too much. But I am sure it will be fun. I am hoping for a ride up to 14000 feet at the top of Mount Evans but we will need a clear and warm day. It can get hairy up there. This is the highest paved road in North America. It is not a very difficult ride. The hard thing is the altitude and the fact that you pass the tree line and you still have about 90 minutes of riding left. I also hope to revisit my ‘ knarly’ ride in Boulder. It is about 9000 feet of climbing all over the county. It grows hair on your chest. Wish me luck. I’ll do some videos for your viewing pleasure.
